The Kentucky Double Dollars program increases access to fresh, locally raised produce, meat, eggs, and dairy for families who are low-income while at the same time increasing sales and income for Kentucky farmers.
It does this by matching eligible purchases made with SNAP (formerly known as food stamps), WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers, and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers at participating farmers markets, Fresh Stop Markets, and retail grocers. The program is a partnership between Community Farm Alliance and Bluegrass Farm to Table and is financially supported by USDA National Institute of Food & Agriculture, Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy/Kentucky Agriculture Development Fund, Passport, WellCare, Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky through the Appalachian Impact Fund and the Duff Family Coal Fund, and local markets.
This year, the program will launch at 41 farmers markets, 10 fresh stop markets, and 3 retail stores.
