On July 28, 2023, the Letcher County Community Foundation (LCCF) awarded flood recovery support grants during the Growing Home celebration event. Grants ranging from $1,000 – $2,500 were awarded to 13 organizations supporting flood recovery efforts in Letcher County.
Angie Hatton, Letcher County Community Foundation vice chair stated, “The recipients were chosen based on the selfless dedication these nonprofit organizations have shown to helping their neighbors through the worst year our community has faced. We’re honored to have the opportunity to support these local groups made up of our neighbors and friends.
At the one-year flood anniversary celebration event, a total of $25,000 was granted to the following:
- Cowan Community Center – $2000
- City of Whitesburg Farmers Market – $2000
- Highway 7 Outreach Corporation – $2000
- Hemphill Community Center – $2000
- Martha, Mary and Me Foundation – $2000
- Forgiven Ministries – $2000
- CANE Kitchen- $2000
- Smile Faith Appalachia – $2000
- Cajun Relief Foundation – $2000
- I Can Services – $2000
- Ignite – $2000
- Neon Community Lion’s Club – $2000
- Carcassonne Community Center – $1000
The Letcher County Community Foundation was established in December 2022 to serve the people in Letcher County with a local focus. The Letcher County Community Foundation is an affiliate of the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky – a nationally accredited community foundation located in eastern Kentucky. Letcher County Community Foundation advisory board members include Angie Hatton, (Vice-Chair), Heather Burton (Secretary), Jeffery Justice (Treasurer), Damion Johnson, Valerie Horn, Larissa Bailey, and Seth Long.
