The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky is pleased to announce its newest affiliate, the Knott County Community Foundation.
The affiliate program was created to combine deep understanding of community priorities and passion of local people with the support and expertise of a nationally accredited foundation. When these two come together, communities can be transformed and thrive.
When affiliates are formed, an advisory committee is charged with building an endowment to benefit that community. This endowment establishes a lasting legacy in the form of a permanent savings account from which the advisory committee can distribute grants based on the priorities and vision of the people within their community.
Affiliate Foundations also benefit from partnering with the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky through administrative support, guidance and philanthropic expertise provided by its experienced staff.
“The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky believes in community transformation,” said Kathy King Allen, Community Engagement Officer for the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky. “And we also believe that the best way to do that is to give communities the tools and support they need to make the decisions that can turn their vision into a reality that can continue on for generations.”
The Knott County Community Foundation board members include Chair Dustin Combs, Vice-Chair Linda Gayheart, Treasurer and Secretary Dora Center, and members Josh Mullins and Archie Everage.
“Knott County is our home,” said Dustin Combs, Board Chair of the Knott County Community Foundation. “We are excited to bring our neighbors together to inspire, empower and support our people.”
The Knott County Community Foundation is dedicated to efforts providing housing and assistance for displaced people, specifically those who are elderly and those with minor children in the home. They will also support the development of safe, affordable community housing efforts for the retired and/or elderly, as well as the development of programs, projects, and activities that benefit youth and elderly populations.
Local focus is the driving force of the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, and the Affiliate program is an extension of that. When funding and decision making remains within the communities impacted, the priorities of the people can become a reality. The Foundation is proud to be a partner in Knott County rising where it’s rooted.
