In March 2017, when her church’s regular Wednesday evening Bible study meeting facilitated a story circle about health and wellness, Kay Jones may not have realized her life was about to change.
Kay told the gathering she had been on a healing journey for over a year and lost more than 50 pounds. The group congratulated her, yet also admitted they felt reluctant to travel that rigorous path individually all by themselves. Kay also confided in the group that she had long been nurturing an idea for starting a health program for women. Through sharing that vision, she realized the time was right to launch a modest, prototype version of her dream. Three months later, Kay began leading a pilot version of her Fit & Fabulous Crew (FFC) program.
In Fall 2018, the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky introduced Kay to the Delores Barr Weaver Fund at the Community Foundation of Northeast Florida. The Fund provided a generous grant that has sustained FFC through Spring 2019.
Today Kay is preparing to embrace the next phase of her journey with Fit & Fabulous Crew. With business planning assistance provided through Kentucky’s Energizing Entrepreneurial Communities Initiative, she is developing the business model for sustaining her fledgling social enterprise.
