Hazard, KY— The Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky is pleased to announce our newest affiliate, the Pikeville Community Foundation supporting Pikeville and Pike County.
This affiliate provides a structure for individuals, families and businesses with a passion for their community to build lasting legacies. Affiliates are overseen by an advisory board of local leaders creating an endowment (think permanent savings account) from which the interest is used to benefit the community. The board recommends the distributions of grants based on their community’s requests. Affiliate foundations benefit from the administrative support, guidance and philanthropic expertise provided by the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky while harnessing the dedication and vision of local leaders within the communities being served.
Pikeville Community Foundation board members are Pat McNamee (chair), Philip Elswick, Rick Newsom, Fadi Al AKhrass, MD, Kathy Atkins (secretary) and Gerrie Clark.
Chair, Pat McNamee said, “Our community foundation will identify community needs, facilitate education efforts, and build up leaders. Our number one desire is to be a catalyst for positive change and growth in our communities for generations to come.”
The Pikeville Community Foundation plans to host their first fundraising event in late January and will open their first grant cycle in early 2020.
